We can do no great things; only small things with great love.
~ Mother Teresa

Let thy words be few.
Ecclesiastes 5:2 from Words of Wisdom

Such as are thy habitual thoughts, such also will be the character of thy mind; for the soul is dyed by the thoughts.
Marcus Aurelius

Look not mournfully into the past, it comes not back again. Wisely improve the present, it is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear and with a manly heart.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

When they discover the center of the universe, a lot of people will be disappointed to discover they are not it.

Dreams surely are difficult, confusing, and not everything in them is brought to pass for mankind. For fleeting dreams have two gates: one is fashioned of horn and one of ivory. Those which pass through the one of sawn ivory are deceptive, bringing tidings which come to nought, but those which issue from the one of polished horn bring true results when a mortal sees them.

Winter

I really shouldn't complain about the cold; winter can actually be a beautiful time around here. Groundhog day is coming soon, though; I wonder if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow or not?
Check out The Official Website of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club! It's a scream! It actually looks like a huge party on the wrong side of the day, but I bet it would be a blast. I doubt I'll make it this year but maybe next....................

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

It is just amazing what you can accomplish when you are willing to step outside your comfort zone!
Barbie was given a task to perform- one she had never ever done before; in fact didn't even know it existed. Instead of saying "No, too hard," she accepted the challenge.
The task was much more difficult than she expected; feet were stomped, supplies thrown across the office, more than a few f-bombs were dropped, yet although she was tempted to, Barbie never gave up.
She persevered, kept pushing, never allowed herself to be defeated, and lo and behold,
She did it! Woohoo! Great job, Barbie, I'm proud of you!
You laugh when I tell you that by stepping out of that comfort zone will make you grow as a person, but guess what! You just grew!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr! January is cold!!!
I have noticed, though that the days are getting longer; the sun is up earlier and stays around later. I look forward to the days when I have a few hours of daylight left after I get home at the end of the day.

Early today, the sun was shining, and dbf and I took advantage of the day (well, part of the day, we lounged around for most of the morning!-What a treat!) and went for a walk on Walnut Beach. We virtually had the beach to ourselves; the gulls outnumbered us by thousands!

The old north wind decided to encourage us to cut the walk short, though, as it bit through our coats, nipped our noses, and froze our ears. The picture above is actually of dbf as we got back to the car! (just kidding, sweetheart, I love you!)

Next Sunday millions of Americans will be staying warm in front of the television with chips, dip, beer, or soda, good friends, and lots of cheering.
Who will you be rooting for?

I say, GO PATS!!!!

Kindness Counts

I will never ever discredit Random Acts of Kindness. Every single one puts more positive energy into the world than a mean act does negative energy. Sometimes, though, it can feel to someone like they are the only one performing those random acts of kindness and the martyr syndrome can begin. I say to those people:
"Time to shift your focus!"
Don't stop what you are doing, but take time every day to observe others for their acts of kindness!
Those acts don't have to be toward you, but they certainly can be. Just seeing a person doing something nice for a stranger can make you feel just as good as if you had done it yourself!
I saw this the other day:
I was at a cafe in a Massachusetts hospital (for work) and in line in front of me was a young girl, maybe 12 or 13 years old. She was obviously very upset; she looked like she had just been at school and came directly to the hopsital to visit a patient. Maybe her mother, father, or other relative.
This young girl scanned the menu vigilantly, and when she got to the register to order, she handed the cashier a gift card and asked how much was on it.
"Five dollars" was the answer.
The girl looked again at the menu, where the cheapest item was $4.59, and ordered that. Only that.
"You do have enough for a soda, sweetheart," offered the cashier.
The girl looked perplexed, but said okay, paid with her gift card, took her food and drink, then sat down at a table to eat.
As soon as the girl was focused on her food, the cashier opened the register's cash drawer, reached into her pocket, and took out enough money to pay for the soda. I felt as great as she must have as I watched this kind lady place the money for the girl's drink in the register.
I would like to say thank you to the cashier. With that small act, you made a huge difference to this girl, me as an observer, and the world as well.

Red Underwear

Wear Red Underwear. I was told to do this many years ago as I started out on a new career path, one I had never thought to try but just fell into my lap. Understandably, I was very nervous, since I had absolutely no experience in the job I accepted. I am one of those people who steps off the cliff and believes they can fly, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need a little boost of power and confidence every now and then.

Red underwear?

Red is definitely a power color; it evokes confidence, passion, enthusiasm, and celebration.

So, wearing red can make a person feel confident, passionate, enthusiastic, and feel like celebrating.

But why underwear?

Most of the time you don’t need to use your clothing to make other people think you are powerful. It is enough that you FEEL that way. Your actions and demeanor will be enough to convince them. If YOU know you are wearing red underwear, it is like a secret confidence-booster- YOU can smile, stand taller, act more confidently and enthusiastically, and not one person will be able to know that red, the power color, is hiding away against your most personal skin, giving you a boost.

At least that’s how it works for me…………….

Red by your skin

Confident glow from within

Success is yours; don’t worry, you’ll win
